something blue

a great way to give a wedding vintage charm is to use patterned and vintage china.  we're currently collecting dinner plates in shades of blue to use for a wedding next april- and we're loving the mix so far!
here are some great inspiration images (via pinterest) of weddings with vintage china table settings:

and they look great on a buffet, too!!

melissa + joel :: 5.21.11

melissa and joel's wedding took place on may 21st, 2011, with the ceremony at covenant presbyterian church and the reception at wolf den farm out in franklin. we all felt so blessed to have gotten to know this couple so well. they are truly in love and so special to everyone around them...their wedding was sheer joy!

we loved this wedding not only for the spectacular couple but for the fun, vintage inspired, and completely personal details we got to incorporate throughout. we started with melissa's color scheme idea of navy, yellow, and grey, and the couple's love of vintage books, maps, and globes... it took off from there! thanks to the awesome photographer rachel moore for the photos....she perfectly captured the spirit of this special day!

melissa wanted a very woodsy bouquet full of interesting textures and of course shades of yellow. we used yellow ranunculus, garden pods, orchids, and billy balls, among others, that we thought made for an eclectic and beautiful look!

bridesmaids carried bouquets of yellow tulips and little chamomile daisies!

melissa did something that is becoming more and more common....let her bridesmaids choose their dresses! she just asked that it be navy and the girls showed her their choice before purchasing. it was so cool to see how each girl's personality was reflected in the dress they wore, but they really looked fabulous all together!

oh and did we mention melissa is stunningly beautiful??

we loved joel and the groomsmen's charcoal suits and assortment of navy and yellow bowties

cory with the beautiful bride!

simple programs in navy and cream paper, navy font

joel and melissa both graduated from the music school at belmont, so we thought this ring shot by rachel was just perfect for them!

at wolf den right after the ceremony

a shot with the whole wedding party on the farm- they looked awesome!

had to include one of the many animals that live at the farm...

for the decor, we used joel and melissa's collection of beautiful vintage books, as well as their old maps. we also mixed in bud vases of fun florals and mini "lampshades" made out of old pages from books covering a stem wine glass with a votive dropped down inside.

the weather was absolutely divine!

gotta love an old bathtub filled with beer and water :)

the guest book table incporated more of joel & melissa's collection, including vintage globes and more books and maps. we also bought a bunch of missouri state flags (for guests to also wave at the end of the night) because the bride and groom were leaving in a few days to move to st. louis!

a vintage typewriter joel gave to melissa served as the guest book sign

and for the actual guest book, we made bookmarks (with navy tassels!) that guests signed with their well wishes. as much as melissa and joel read, they will be using these bookmarks and remembering that day always!

chef's market did a great job with the food, as usual...and we loved how the buffet looked outside on old barrels and planks!

melissa's friend came by and did this art for the couple on the existing chalkboard...it looked amazing!!

round tables were nestled in the horse stalls

and we even incoporated this swing on the porticos into the seating for the long tables! people were rushing to grab those coveted seats!

saying goodbye and good luck to the bride and groom and they embarked on their new adventure in st. louis!

we love you guys and can't begin to express what it meant to be a part of your day. xoxo!

kristen + galen :: 3.12.11

kristen and galen were married on march 12, 2011, a gorgeous and warm spring day! wedding was at christ presbyterian church (where kristen and her family are longtime members), and reception was held at the war memorial downtown (as i'm sure you folks know by now, is one of our favorites!) thanks to the ever fabulous photographer mary rosenbaum for these gorgeous shots...

kristen's bouquet was absolutely stunning. martha really knocked this one out of the park!

the moms carried mussy tussys in silver vases with stands. it's a great keepsake- you can even have it engraved with the wedding date after it's all over!

bridesmaids in taupe silk tafetta with bouquets in shades of ivory and pastel- kristen loved blue hydrangeas and white roses
mary did such a great job with kristen and galen's portraits....of course it didn't hurt that kristen and galen are adorable, and kristen is a ballroom dancer- she had such grace, poise and movement all day

arrangement in the sanctuary with french tulips, hydrangeas, delphinium, stock, and cherry blossom branches:

on to the reception...did we mention kristen is a professional ballroom dancer? i think galen may have received some training too- definitely a "dancing with the stars" worthy first dance!

kristen loves jordan almonds, and also loves bird nests (they were incorporated throughout her stationery)- so we did a tablescape in the lobby that incorporated little "birds' nests" of jordan almonds:

more cherry blossom branches, locally sourced!

the main table arrangements were topiaries of roses and hydrangeas in ivory, blue and pink:

and, we couldn't let this blog post pass without mentioning the food. it. was. incredible. kristen winston did a great job, and boy oh boy, did mary rosenbaum do a great job of shooting the food!?! it is beautiful!

we packed hydrangeas around the base of the cake, and then the cake table itself had a petticoat...that's right people...we basically turned this table into scarlett o'hara...it's a great way to add some drama! the lace overlay was a vintage piece from kristen's family.

what a great night! and, to cap it all off, kristen let us know that she and galen are expecting their first child this fall!!!! many congrats to you both, and thank you for letting us be a part of your special day.
